With No Clues From Cervantes

In Search of The Count of Lemos

by Lou deLemos

A novel written by Louis deLemos during his genealogical journey.  It's not all historic facts, there are soul searching journeys with twists, turns and laughs along the way.  In search of his family connection to the Count de Lemos, a Spanish Royal who had been part of the author's family lore even before his overheard conversation between his father and uncle when he was ten years old; fifty-five years later Lou de Lemos takes his first step on a genealogical journey that sends him tumbling head over heals into a Pandora's box of historical events.

When he discovers his great grandfather's birth certificate, he is forced to solve the mystery of how and why the Benveniste--a wealthy and scholarly family--and de Lemos names were joined joined together for over three hundred years.

Along this rarely traveled road the author encounters a clan of Lemavos Celts crossing over from Gaul into northern Spain in 300 BC, Vasco de Lemos, the first recorded de Lemos in 740, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella and the horrors of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition, Columbus, Rembrandt and Miguel de Cervantes, the internationally acclaimed author who received financial support from the Count de Lemos VII while he wrote his literary classic, "Don Quixote."  (In gratitude, Cervantes on his deathbed, dedicated part two of the novel to the Count. )

He discovers the dramatic and romantic life of Antonio de Lemos who crossed swords with the evil Padre de Diaz on the Puente Viejo bridge in Monforte de Lemos, and his half brother, Diego who fights on the side of the peasant Brotherhood against the unrelenting cruelty of the Noble families.

Unpredictable and dangerous situations are navigated as the author walks in the footsteps of his ancestors through 2500 years of history.  But the light at the end of the tunnel would always be just another mile or 100 year away.

This carefully crafted manuscript unravels a fascinating story in a candid compelling style with dialog that bears traces of the authors youth growing up in Harlem, New York.

"With No Clues From Cervantes" is a journey within a journey  propelled by the writers unquenchable thirst of adventure.  Anyone interested in genealogy and ancestry will find this three hundred-page labor of love a treasure trove of information.  And if you happen to be of the de Lemos or Benveniste family, there is a rich and vibrant history awaiting you on every page.
